Valencia

Known for its culinary scene, eclectic neighborhoods, and sunny beaches, Valencia has an abundance of appeal for just about any traveler.

Get to know why it’s one of the most beloved cities in all of Europe, and learn why so many people are choosing this Spanish city on the sea as their slow travel destination.

Why travel to Valencia?

Here are some of the main highlights of long travel in Valencia:

  • Sunny days and a healthy lifestyle: Valencia has 300 days a year of sun and an average temperature of 19C/66F. The comfy weather offers the freedom to go for a jog, ride a bike on the cities wide network of paths, do outdoor yoga, or simply relax at a terrace for a drink and a meal nearly any time of the year.

  • Excellent cost of living value: Considering the high standard of life and high level of services, Valencia is incredibly well priced. One can expect to pay about 25-35% less for meals, accommodation, or entertainment compared to most North American or western European cities.

  • Local culture + expat community: It’s easy to become entranced by Valencia’s lovely local traditions and way of life, while at the same time finding friends in the ever growing expat community. A great neighborhood to focus on for meeting expats is L’Eixample/Ruzzafa. In this area you’ll find plenty of cafes, co-working spaces, and bars with fun meetup events happening just about every night of the week.

Valencia Travel Tips from A Season Abroad

Visit Mercado Central: This gorgeous Art Nouveau market hall in the center of Valencia is an absolute marvel to enjoy. It offers 8000 sqm (86,000 sq ft) of tiny restaurants, wine bars, and colorful stands selling fresh fruit and vegetables, jamon, cheese, & many other local culinary treats. Stop in to grab food for a picnic or enjoy an upscale tapas experience at Central Bar by renowned local Chef Richard Camarena.

Turia Park: This enormous oasis-like garden located in the heart of Valencia provides a welcome spot to relax among palm trees, flower gardens, and shady pines. It covers 9 km (5.5 miles) of space, including paths for cyclists and joggers, and plenty of sprawling grassy areas for yoga and picnics.

La Malvarossa Beach: This city beach of Valencia entices beach goers with its soft golden sands and warm Mediterranean waters. Along the seaside promenade you’ll find volleyball courts, quaint bars, and a variety of paella and seafood restaurants with relaxing vibes and gorgeous sea views. Try El Trompo restaurant for delicious paella in a setting so close to the beach that you can practically dip your toes in the sand while you eat.
